Kildeer
- A Village in a Natural Setting
Kildeer, an established small
community, was recently ranked as one of the top suburbs in which to live.
The ranking was based on various factors: livability, schools, amenities,
services, transportation and minimal crime.
Reflected in Kildeer’s history is the
desire to protect its tranquil character and control its own destiny. The
Village was incorporated in 1958 to protect it from a developer’s plan for
a large scale "City of the Future." Since that time, the Village’s growth
has been carefully and thoughtfully guided to preserve its rural
atmosphere consisting of open farm fields; interspaced rolling
countryside; wooded areas; picturesque streams, ponds and lakes; and
spacious home sites. Buffalo Creek runs through the Village.
Kildeer covers approximately 2700 acres and
features over 19 residential subdivisions offering a wide range of quality
custom homes in a rural setting. Most subdivisions feature large lots of a
minimum one acre, and a variety of rural settings. Planned unit
developments maintain an overall one acre density, but feature clustered
lots and common open spaces. Currently nearing a population of 3500, with
approximately 1100 residences, the Kildeer area appeals to people of all
ages and backgrounds. Many are professionals who desire to live in a
friendly community that offers high quality homes in an atmosphere of
beautiful natural surroundings.
The community is supported by a staff
consisting of administration, building & zoning, police and public works.
The Kildeer Police Department provides 24 hour police patrol, including
traffic control and property surveillance. The Village contracts police
service to the neighboring Village of Deer Park. Kildeer maintains
approximately 40 miles of roads and three sewer districts.
The Village has just completed construction
of a Village Facility/Community Center located at 21911 Quentin Road. The
Shops at Kildeer, a 165,000 square-foot retail center at Rand Road and
Long Grove Road, helps to provide the impetus for quality
development/redevelopment of the Rand Road corridor and the fulfillment of
Kildeer’s mission: "to maintain an environment for tranquil living; to
provide services that foster the health, safety and welfare of its
residence; and to operate in a fiscally responsible manner."
